Carnipure by Meditech AKA Acetyl-L-carnitine or ALCAR, is an acetylated derivative of L-carnitine. It is a fantastic dietary supplement and occurs naturally in plants and animals. During strenuous exercise, as is the case with athletes and bodybuilders, a large portion of L-carnitine and unused acetyl-CoA are converted to ALCAR and CoA inside mitochondria of the body cell by carnitine O-acetyltransferase. The ALCAR is then transported outside the mitochondria with the help of transportation cells, where it converts back to the two constituents. The L-carnitine is now cycled back into the mitochondria with acyl groups to enhance fatty acid utilization.
It has been shown in laboratory studies that Carnipure is far superior to L-carnitine in terms of bioavailability. Both use the same mechanism for absorption in intestine that gets improved with sodium. One study has shown that Acetyl L-carnitine has a lower blood concentration after ingestion. This might be because Acetyl L-carnitine is hydrolyzed more in blood. This derives that it has less bioavailability unless it is entering cells (e.g. muscle) more efficiently from the blood than L-carnitine.
Carnipure is reported to have the ability to cross the blood brain barrier and crosses to the brain blood circulation, where it functions as a powerful antioxidant, which helps in prevention of deterioration of the brain cells. It seems to be useful in treatment of peripheral nerve injury. It might also have some neuroprotective benefit for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, but further research is required to extablish it precisely. It is also known to increase sperm motility, which related to the ability of sperms to move vigorously. As we know that motility is the most critical element that increases the probability of sperm’s fertilization capability, acetyl-L-carnitine can help sperm cells move more vigorously, which consequently leads to the enhanced male fertility.
Carnipure has been shown to be effective in improving the curvature and reducing the pain and plaque sizes for men suffering from Peyronie’s disease. It has also been shown to improve insulin response to the body and has proved to have a positive effect on various muscle diseases as well as heart conditions. Acetyl-L-carnitine is an amino acid (a building block for proteins) which is produced in the body, in a natural manner. It helps the body produce energy.
Carnipure is also used for a variety of mental disorders including Alzheimer’s disease, age-related memory loss, old age depression, lack of capability to think due to excessive alcohol consumption, and thinking problems caused by Lyme disease. It is also helpful in Down syndrome, poor blood circulation in the brain, cataracts, nerve pain because of diabetes, nerve pain due to drugs used for the treatment of AIDS, and facial paralysis. Some men have administered Carnipure for infertility, the symptoms of “male menopause” (having low testosterone levels because of aging), and Peyronie’s disease – a disease of the penis.
Human body has a capability to convert L-carnitine to acetyl-L-carnitine and vice versa. Carnipure helps the body to produce energy. It is significantly important for heart and brain function, muscle movement, and many other body processes.
